Leisurely hikes

Experience the mountains from their most beautiful perspective. We will show you quiet spots that are just waiting for you.

Past quietly flowing springs, thunderous waterfalls, alpine meadows vivid in color, constantly accompanied by the ringing of cowbells; almost imperceptibly, the tranquillity and nature’s harmony are passed on to the hikers themselves. Stop, enjoy a quiet moment, take a deep breath of mountain air, sit down on a bench, on a rock, on the meadows and close your eyes, listen to the birds, the bees…

Return after a wonderful day of hiking, exhausted, yet full of energy and primed for a new and glorious day ahead.

Sporting an anorak, cap and gloves in the middle of summer?
Yes, indeed, for Hintertux always sets aside one day to remind ourselves of winter.
With Toni, the director of the mountaineering school in Tux, you can take a weekly hike across snows that are thousands of years old. Toni supplies the crampons absolutely free of charge.

Important:
Don’t forget sunglasses, sunblock, a cap, gloves, good ankle-high hiking boots and a camera.

Family holidays during summer in Hintertux

The great themed trails in the Tuxertal Valley – between Hintertux and Tux – offer plenty of variety and are an experience for visitors young and old. They cover various topics in a fun and interesting way, especially for children. Discover the fascinating wildlife with many games and activity highlights on your family holiday with kids. Or experience nature with all the senses in the natural world along the moor educational trail with hanging chairs and the “Lauschinsel” island. In the water world, you and your children can learn all about water with the friendly Glacier Flea, Luis. All the themed trails are well built and generally accessible by pram – the only exception is the Nature Themed Trail.

Get ready for fun and action for the whole family on the Hintertux Glacier! The Sommerberg hiking area is home to an adventurous course with tricky riddles for kids! On the Glacier Flea Safari with mascot Luis, kids explore the fascinating Hintertux Glacier on an exciting hike, complete with a treasure hunt. The treasure map is available at the valley station of the Gletscherbahn cable car. All children up to the age of 10 ride free to the Glacier Safari Park, the highest playground in Europe. There little ones can race down the tubing track at 3,250 metres above sea level, or start a family snowball fight in the middle of summer! The Glacier Flea Safari and the Glacier Safari Park are accessible by pram.

The new highlight for families on holiday in Zillertal is the “Almspielerei” playground, a true paradise for kids. The playground is easily reachable via the Eggalmbahn cable car.

You will find the new adventure playground around the mountain station at 1,950 metres above sea level. With different stations, kids can explore and learn whilst having fun. Cross the large pond by float or test your balance on the nine-metre-long slack line across the pond. The fresh spring water invites you and your kids to dip your feet. Your family will love many other wet attractions and the trail also teaches your kids more about alpine pastures and what makes them so special.

You will surely find a cosy, shady spot to unwind on one of the many lounge chairs, and the covered outdoor area invites you to enjoy the magnificent mountain panorama of the Zillertal mountains or treat yourself to a hard-earned break with coffee and cake at the Eggalm inn.

A very special adventure awaits youngsters on your family holiday in Hintertux. Mum and Dad can spend a leisurely day at the spa or go for a hike with your host, Frank, whilst kids take an exciting trip with your host Silvia. After your delicious breakfast with milk, cheese and butter made my local farmers, we head outside and take a trip to the alpine pasture. Past the peacefully grazing cows, we walk uphill to the alpine chalet where the farmer is already looking forward to your visit.

Silvia will teach you how to knead fresh bread dough - everyone can have a try and pop the bread you kneaded yourself into the oven. Whilst it’s baking, Silvia will show you how to make lemonade and syrups for juice. Then it’s time to play and explore the alpine pasture. The fresh mountain air makes you hungry - luckily the bread is ready to take out of the oven! Enjoy a piece with fresh farmhouse butter and homemade lemonade - you can even pack some for Mum and Dad if you like. Then you’ll head back to the Hotel Vierjahreszeiten on the hiking trail. When we get back, tell Mum and Dad about your fun day and everything you’ve learned!
